You might have heard of the term ‘computer CMOS’ several times. This term stands for complementary metal-oxide semiconductor. It is basically a chip which is found in computers. In a computer, such settings which apply to the system hardware as well as the system time and date are stored in the CMOS. It is called so because it uses semiconductor technology. It is also referred to as a Real-time clock.

The computer CMOS is used for several things such as for converting data in your computer from one type of format to another. You might have converted your video files many a time into a music or mp3 file. This is possible because of the CMOS. The CMOS is also used in image sensors, microprocessors and the like. Thus, it is a very powerful and useful technology which is used in a computer.

Information on configuration is stored on the CMOS chip. When you switch off your computer, it is due to the information stored on the CMOS chip that you are able to view the data again when you switch on your computer. That is why it is also known as a real-time clock. You are able to retain all the data and files that you need because of the computer CMOS chip which helps to put together the necessary information and keep this information safe.

The CMOS comprises of a circuit design which consists of many circuit groups which perform different functions. When there is a lot of electric noise it is due to the CMOS that the computer can withstand such pressure. It also ensures that your computer uses power in a low-static form. Hence, your computer is able to use electricity in the right way and there is no damage to it due to electrical malfunctions due to the CMOS chip which is present in your device.


The CMOS or semiconductor is one that is made of metal oxide. It means that it contains materials such as germanium or silicon which only conducts electricity to a small or mild extent. There are positive as well as negative charge carriers on this CMOS, both of which contribute to controlling the electrical current that is used to make the computer function. When the computer is switched off, the CMOS also does not use any power at all. Thus, a lot of power is saved because of the CMOS in your computer.

Dynamic and static positions can be controlled by the CNOS in a much more effective way by the CMOS than say with a logic controller. This is because it uses only half the power that a logic controller uses. There are no functions that it performs when that particular function does not need to be used, thereby saving up on electric power. You should definitely get a processor that contains a CMOS chip because it would be able to perform at high speed without getting over-heated. Also, these kinds of processors are much more effective and give you value for money.
